Why the site is organised by wind
Most charter guides are organised by country, which is how holidays are sold but not how they are sailed. The thing that decides whether a week afloat is enjoyable or exhausting is the wind, and wind does not follow borders. The Ionian and the Cyclades are both Greece, a few hours apart by ferry, and they are entirely different propositions in August.
So the unit here is the cruising ground rather than the country, and every ground leads with its typical afternoon Beaufort figure, its passage lengths and the experience level it suits. Seventeen grounds are covered, from the Ionian to the Turkish coast.
How the pages are put together
Each ground page is written from published pilot information, charter operator briefing notes, meteorological summaries for the region and the sailing literature for that coast. Wind figures are given as Beaufort ranges rather than single numbers, because that is how they actually behave across a season.
Sample weeks are built to be realistic rather than ambitious: daily distances that leave time to swim and to be tied up before the afternoon breeze peaks. Where a ground has a genuine hazard worth naming, such as the Bora in the northern Adriatic or the Meltemi at its August peak, it is stated plainly rather than softened.
Nothing here replaces a proper skipper's briefing, current charts and the forecast on the day. It is a guide for deciding where to go, not for navigating once you are there.
What this site is not
There is no inventory to push. No operator pays to be listed, no ground is ranked higher because a partner sells more boats there, and no page is written to order. The site earns money through affiliate links, which is set out in full in the affiliate disclosure.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, out of date, or reads differently from how a coast actually behaves, say so. Corrections from people who have sailed a ground are the most useful mail this site gets, and pages are updated when they arrive.
